Onboard team

  • James Mitchell

    Captain

James brings more than 20 years of experience as a commercial Yacht Captain to CAPTAIN MORGAN III, together with extensive cruising knowledge and a genuine lifelong passion for life on the water. Born in Yorkshire, James spent his childhood holidays sailing the south coast of England and the Channel Islands with his family. After leaving formal education, he initially pursued a career as a professional musician before establishing his own IT company, which was among the early pioneers of what we now know as streaming technology. Away from work, almost every spare moment was spent on the water racing sailing yachts. In 2000, James turned his passion into a full-time career, establishing a yacht charter company in Ibiza before becoming a Yachtmaster Instructor at UKSA. He took his first Captain’s position in 2003 aboard the Sunseeker RUFF ONE in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat and has since captained an impressive collection of yachts, including CHEEKY TIGER, IRISHA, TELEOST, SIROCCO, LEONARDO III and SERENA, before joining CAPTAIN MORGAN III. Over the course of his career, James has developed extensive cruising knowledge across the Mediterranean, Caribbean and Atlantic. His experience in the charter industry, combined with his approachable nature and understanding of what makes a truly memorable time onboard, has resulted in many returning charter guests who choose to follow him from yacht to yacht. When he is not at sea, James still enjoys playing the piano and has his own professional recording studio at home. He is also a keen skier, tennis and padel player, and road cyclist. James lives in the South of France with his wife and two children. Captain James and his crew look forward to welcoming guests aboard CAPTAIN MORGAN III and creating an unforgettable charter experience.
