Legendary Scottish yacht design, celebrated for elegant lines, exceptional craftsmanship and some of sailing’s most iconic yachts.
The Fife story began around 1790, when William Fife I established his boatbuilding business on the shores of Fairlie, Scotland. Across successive generations, the family developed an international reputation for designing and building yachts that combined remarkable beauty with outstanding performance.
William Fife III became the most celebrated of the dynasty, designing more than 600 yachts and creating everything from elegant cruising yachts to highly successful racing vessels. His designs included America’s Cup challengers Shamrock I and Shamrock III, while the distinctive Fife dragon became an enduring symbol of the yard.
Although the original Fairlie yard is no longer operating, the Fife name remains an important part of yachting history. More than 100 William Fife III designs survive today, admired for their graceful lines, speed and craftsmanship and regularly brought together at classic yacht regattas around the world.
